Description:
Winnebago County seeks to expand treatment services of an established and effective diversion program that includes a mental health court, which is tailored to the needs of the community and offenders with mental illnesses. The proposed expansion addresses the need to add 1 FTE treatment specialist in co-occurring disorders; 1 FTE treatment specialist in gender-based sexual abuse/trauma screening and counseling; and a 0.5 FTE family psychoeducational and advocacy services specialist. The project’s overarching goal is to break the cycle of arrest and incarceration for people who commit crimes due to their mental illnesses.
