Background information:
We began in 2005 by sending 2 officers to CIT training. One officer contacted the local mental health authority and began building a realtionship of trust. Other professional relations were developed between the courts and individual group homes (needing regular police response). Realizing not all officers are going to become CIT certified, our focus now is to familiarize other officers within our department about resources available to them.
