Description:
New York City’s Department of Correction (DOC) and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will create a jail diversion program for adult misdemeanor offenders with mental illnesses. This project will will enhance DOC and CASES’ Day Custody Program (DCP), a three-day jail alternative for repeat misdemeanants where participants perform supervised community service and receive needs assessments, treatment readiness counseling, and referrals to other service providers. DCP-MH would work under the NYC Discharge Planning Collaboration, a partnership of city agencies, advocates, service providers, research institutions and foundations that combats homelessness and recidivism through public policy and systems change.
