The Mental Health Court will pair judges, prosecutors, defense lawyers and mental health professionals on cases. They'll work together to help mentally ill people accused of misdemeanor crimes get treatment and learn how to function on the right side of the law.

The Mental Health Court will pair judges, prosecutors, defense lawyers and mental health professionals on cases. They'll work together to help mentally ill people accused of misdemeanor crimes get treatment and learn how to function on the right side of the law.

Judge Thomas Chotena (Sho-Tay-na) says the idea is to get people treatment and keep the mentally ill out of overcrowded jails. The defendants will be closely monitored and they could end up behind bars if they don't follow the rules.
