The Council of State
Governments Justice Center is pleased
to announce its fourth Bureau
of Justice Assistance-sponsored
webinar in the Justice
and Mental Health
Collaboration Program (JMHCP) Webinar Series:
Improving the Mental Health
Court Response to Crime Victims
This webinar will explore why the rights due to victims in traditional criminal court proceedings are not always
made available to individuals who are victimized by people accepted into mental health courts. Panelists will
suggest practical solutions for improving victims' rights policies and highlight recommendations from the Justice
Center publication, Guide
to the Role of Crime Victims in Mental Health Courts, developed
with support from the Office for
Victims of Crime. Panelists will outline strategies for involving victims at various points in the mental health court
process without compromising adherence to medical privacy mandates and principles. Discussion will also focus on
working with family members who have been victimized by mental health court participants, and at the close of the
webinar there will be an opportunity for Q&A with panelists.
