12.16 Juvenile Justice Webinar

The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center is pleased to announce an upcoming webinar, sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, for Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program grantees, Second Chance Act grantees, and the Juvenile Justice field at large.

Sharing Information to Improve Outcomes and Protect Privacy in the Juvenile Justice System

Information sharing among mental health agencies, the juvenile justice system, and the courts is important for case planning, data collection, and program evaluation. However, exchanging sensitive information can create legal and logistical challenges for jurisdictions implementing collaborative programs. The laws protecting the privacy of juveniles are often misunderstood, protocols and systems for sharing information efficiently and legally are absent, and agencies can have different, conflicting goals for youth that prevent collaboration.

Lourdes Rosado will provide strategies to improve outcomes for youth and reduce their deeper involvement into the juvenile and criminal justice systems. She will address the need for jurisdictions to share information responsibly and legally, present recommended practices for jurisdictions facing this issue, highlight resources for planning and implementation, and discuss evaluation and measurement tools. The webinar will conclude with a question-and-answer period.
